Ok...
Thomas Mann gave Elliot Smith his first big break by booking him on the Ed Sullivan show. Other guests that night included Ethel Merman, The Chinese Acrobats, Topo Gigio, and a man from Hoboken who could whistle out of his belly button. While Elliot was not an immediate hit, Ed said he sounded "rilly, rilly good." Little Elliot was so happy that he wet his pants.
They both thematically dwelled on the subject of the decayed spirit. duh. (you thought I was gonna mention suicide huh?)
